[Appearance] At first glance, one might suppose that Shinji Ikari is an ordinary boy. At second glance, one would realize that they are, well, right. He has ordinary brown hair, just down to the nape of his neck. His eyes are an unremarkable shade of blue, nearly dark enough to be mistaken for black. His frame is slender and scrawny. His dress only reiterates this plainness. He wears a simple white dress shirt, tucked into a black pant.
[Personality] Shinji is like that kid who sits in the back of the classroom and hardly speaks a word. In fact, he is that kid. He began to distance himself from others at a young age, and only became more introverted as the years went by. His anti-social behavior is a defense mechanism, put up to prevent himself from being hurt by and hurting others. He also suffers from feelings of inadequacy, and is sensitive to negative evaluations from others. Because of this, he strives to be useful to others.
[History/Background] After Shinji’s father drowned during a particularly terrible storm, his mother fell into depression. Although she tried her best to care for her son, she became so thoroughly occupied with thoughts of her late husband that she sometimes forgot about Shinji. Her mental health improved over the years, but Shinji, not wanting to be a burden any longer, decided to move out and live on his own at the age of thirteen. To sustain himself over the past year, he has undertaken several minimum-wage jobs, none lasting for more than a month or so.
